If you're new to the trucking industry, you might have heard the term "DAC Report" tossed around. But what exactly is a DAC Report, and why is it so important for truck drivers? Let's break it down and answer some of your major questions.
What is a DAC Report?
A DAC Report, short for Drive-A-Check Report, is essentially a background check for truck drivers. It's compiled by HireRight, a company that specializes in providing background screening services. This report contains detailed information about a driver's work history, driving record, drug and alcohol test results, and other pertinent information that potential employers use to evaluate a driver’s suitability for employment.
What is on a DAC Report?
A DAC Report includes a variety of information that paints a comprehensive picture of a driver's professional history. Here’s what you can typically find on a DAC Report:
Employment History: Detailed records of previous employers, including dates of employment, types of freight and trailers experience, and reasons for leaving.
Driving Record: Information on accidents, violations, and inspections.
Drug and Alcohol Test Results: Results of any drug or alcohol tests, including any refusals to take such tests.
Criminal Background: Any criminal history that might be relevant to the job.
Other Records: Additional information such as certifications, DOT physical, endorsements, and other qualifications.
How are DAC Reports Created?
DAC Reports are created through a combination of input from former employers and public records. When a driver leaves a job, their employer submits information about their employment to HireRight. This data is then compiled along with other records to create a comprehensive report. Potential employers access these reports to make informed hiring decisions. DAC Reporting is strictly voluntary and not all previous employers will report your history.
How Can a Driver Dispute a DAC Report?
It's important for drivers to know that they have the right to dispute any inaccurate or misleading information on their DAC Report. Here’s how you can go about it:
Obtain a Copy of Your DAC Report: Drivers are entitled to one free copy of their DAC Report every year. You can request it directly from HireRight. You can submit an online form to request your copy here or contact them directly using the information shared below.
Review the Report Carefully: Go through the report to identify any inaccuracies or incomplete information.
Submit a Dispute: If you find any errors, you can file a dispute with HireRight. Provide detailed information and any supporting documentation to back up your claim. Disputes can be made by phone, mail, fax, or through a form on their website. See contact information below.
Follow Up: After submitting your dispute, follow up to ensure that the necessary corrections are made. HireRight is required to promptly investigate and respond to your dispute typically within 30 days.
